What a fast damn car. Manufacture date of late 9/92, it had a 4 speed stick (mid-'83 went to a weak-ass 5 speed, and a big fat Holley vacuum secondary double pumper (1985 went to fuel injection). The throttle response was instantaneous. The thing had a 2.73 posi rear, but it would hold you back in the seats off the line, then cruise 75 at about 2000RPM. I had removed all of the smog controls, preferring exhaust that started with 1-5/8" headers and stopped just past the turbo mufflers. A mild Crane cam roughed up the idle enough to sound dangerous, and MAN did it open up the midrange and top end. I did rough estimates on time-to-speed/time-to-distance and came up with numbers around 300HP. I was a dumb-ass street racer kid and had a few Corvettes and even a Buick GNX kill (the GNX driver obviously couldn't drive). When I dusted a cop (it took him 2 days to catch up with me) my steet racing days were over and have been ever since.

Now I have found Autocross - if I only knew what I had been missing all those years.....

The first car you ever owned. Was it a Bimmer? Was it your favorite of all you have had since? Do you have great memories of it, compared to the current experiences in our Bimmers?

Me, It was a '76 Mercury Cougar XR7, loaded, got it when I was 19 in '78. It was a beautiful cruiser. I could haul-ass for hours on it's 26 gal tank, with four friends to boot! My current '95 525ia is a fantastic machine. Other than someone else paying for it, I really can't think of any other car I would like right now. As far as memories, I've only had this(my first)BMW for 6 months. But so far, so good!
