The price is right but what you got to ask yourself is can you afford to spend another $8000 or so if or when the motor goes bad.I asked my BMW mechanic what he thought of me buying a 540 and he told me that his shop gets calls every week from 540 owners who are experiencing the rough idle problem. All he can do is refer them to the dealer. He also called it the biggest unrecalled problem in the entire auto industry. He also says that he has listened to many dealers tell him how happy their lives will be when this year comes to an end(and the 6 year extended warrenty expires). It seems that BMW is even short changing the dealers as well as the customers). They expect ALOT of tradeins to hit the market when the warrenty does finaly expire in 3 months and that should bring the price down even further.I too really wanted a 540 before settling for my 535i.The thought of waking up one day and shelling out $8000 for a new motor on a 6 year old luxury car makes me sick just thinking about it.And remember, i live in California, some people are trying to say that it doesnt happen here. That is not at all true--just go to a dealer and listen to them bitch and complain about it.
I still have dreams of getting a super low milage red 540 but id hate to buy one and have my dream turn into a nightmare. just my 2 cents
