I'm thinking of changing my 91 535i (which having just had the head re-done is a dream) for a 95 540i six speed. Am I mad? Are the problems with the 540i idle that bad?
Comments greatly received.
Yes, upgrading to a 540i is a worth while upgrade. I have owned both a 1992 535i 5 speed and 540i 1995 6 speed. You will find a big difference in pure pleasure of having the 540 power over the 535. It seems the only people who say don't buy one,are the people who don't have one!(Sorry fellows I know your just trying to help)
This isn't to say the engine problem is not real but you can find used 540's with the new short block installed. If your buying it from a dealer you have 2 months to get him to replace the nikasil with a new block after you make the purchase.
Now you ask, did I have the problem, nope, bought one with the new short block installed.
Then I went crazy and supercharged it! Wow what a ride!
