A race setup is nice but I personally couldn't live with a car like that, hence the E34. Comfy and quiet but also fun when you push it. Yeah, you can get some beater E30 and race prep it but it will still cost you double than what you could get a CBR F2 or ZX7 for. And you'll be looking at a helluva lot more kick there.
