Please go look at a rotary engine. You will see that the rotors look nothing (at all) like a turbine). It's operation is nothing like a turbine engine.
With your reasoning any engine that makes something spin would be the same. IE V8, exploding gases make the crankshaft spin so a V8 and a turbine engine work the same.
Don't think so. It's not even a question of enough imagination.

Rotary engine: exploding gases make the rotor spin because of its turbine similar shape...
(gase movement -> spin)
Turbine engine: spinning turbine propel the air thru...(spin -> gase movement)
unless you have extra sence of imagination nothing common but the spinning, you're right; but i think that's the same process in one case its straight in the other backwards... just my smoked imagination...
