I have a 95 525ia with 74k miles on it. What are some signs indicating that I will need to change the timing belt on it. Futhermore, is there an interval period in which I have to change it, ie every 100K. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Brian
95 525ia.

Not sure if that motor has a belt or a chain. I think its a chain driven valve train but I'm not sure. Check it out with the dealer. IF it has a belt, there are no GOOD signs. The change interval is every 4 years or 50-60,000 miles. If you can't document that the belt has been previously changed, you need to have this done or do it NOW. You're living on borrowed time my brother.

The first sign you will receive is your pistons hitting your valves when the belt lets go. Not a good sign and a very expensive one at that.

Good Luck,

Bob Duckworth
