I remeber reading a long time ago about an E39 with a V8 that sucked up some water into the engine during a heavy rain storm. It was in a Tech column in Motor Trend I think. The writer ended up needing a new engine. His car died right away though. I would take you car to the shop ASAP and get it diagnosed. Probably is nothing though.
