If you are just learning how do rebuild engines, a BMW engine is not the one you want to start on. Find a Chebby or Ford block and rebuild it. BMW engines while similar in principle are different enough that I doubt you typical school engine class is going to deal with the finer points.

As to building more power into it, I wouldn't even suggest it unless you had LOTS of experience. Even Dinan is getting out of the stoker business. If Dinan has smelt the coffee you might want to learn from their experience.

As to Neil's point, swaps are doable. They are not for the uninitiated. If you don't know what you are doing, expect to make mistakes that will end up costing you.

i need a used engine so that i can rebuild it. im taking a class at school and i have a 525i which is far from sporty, so im plannin on taking another m50 and overboring porting polishing etc etc, OR tryin to fit and s50. will an s50 mate with my 525i auto tranny? or will i have to get an m5 tranny too. either way i can do anything, we have such a rad shop. any of idea will be MUCH appreciated. i dont care if i make some engine then break it either cause ill have my engine im usin right now to put back in. thanks guys.
