I am wanting to read the engine check codes on my Australian E34 535is, built April '89. The five stomp test does nothing as there is no light installed in the "check engine" indicator on the dash. According to http://www.bonnevillemotorwerks.com/fault.html this indicates that I have a Motronic version 1.0 management system, without the self diagostic flash code capability. The site http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Trouble/Engine_codes.htm says that you can set up a temporary check engine indicator light for early E34s using the bulb holder for the check engine light that is in the dash. Mine does not have the holder installed at all. Is anyone able to advise if I will be able to get a light to flash the codes if I pick up the circuit from the dash PCB and run it to a remote test light?
