The best thing to use is either a regular 100%cotton wash mit or one of the new cotton microfiber wash mits. Wool tends to leave fine scratches more than cotton. Always use 2 buckets, one with soap and one with just plain water. After washing a panel, always rinse the mit out in the plain water bucket before putting it back into the soap bucket.

Scratches are the bane of black car owners. The best thing that you can do is invest in a good random orbital polisher (Cable-Porter from Coastal Tools) and a nice set of foam pads. I like 3M polishing compounds (Imperial or Perfect It-III) followed by Klasse Glaze and then Blitz wax. The only problem with this regimen is the time (the first time it takes about 10-15 hours to do it right) and now you can see all of the typical paint imperfections that all cars have. Except that now that everything else is so nice, these imprefections really stick out...
