Be sure you read up on the Alusil/Nikasil issue before buying a 540 or 530. Search the archives or type alusil and nikasil into a WWW search engine. Basically, some of the original Nikasil blocks had problems and had to be replaced. BMW extended the warranty to 100k miles or six years (I think) from the in-service date, whichever comes first, and replaced bad blocks with Alusil versions.

You may never have a problem. Then again, you could be facing a $5k repair bill all too soon. Check out www.530i.net for more information.
