I am wanting to read the engine check codes on my Australian E34 535is, built April '89. The five stomp test did nothing as there is no light or bulb holder installed in the "check engine" indicator on the dash. According to this indicates that I have a Motronic version 1.0 management system, without the self diagostic flash code capability. The site says that you can set up a temporary check engine indicator light for early E34s using the bulb holder for the check engine light that is in the dash.
I put a bulbholder and bulb (from the low fuel indicator) into the socket for the "check engine" indicator on the dash and tried the stomp test. It worked, giving me a code of "1211". I have now soldered a pair of fine wires to the pads on the circuit board for the "engine check" indicator light and run these out for connection to a LED test light when required.
However, according to the code 1211 corresponds to the Digital Motor Electronics control unit. Once the code is started with the five stomps, it repeats endlessly and doesn’t stop. Trying to clear the codes as explained on doesn’t work.
Anyone able to enlighten me further??
Also, how do you attach pictures to these messages??
Colin, 535is Glen Waverley, Victoria.
