There is a sensor that can tell when you are going up or down hill, it tells the tranny to shift down for more power. This sensor might be the problem.

Hi All

Please could give me some guidance with a Trans Program message I got this morning:

Driving to work as normal. Accellerated up a hill and the auto-box dropped down a couple of cogs as normal. As I lifted off it changed back up as normal. Then, for a split second it changed back down, the up again, and flashed Trans Program.

I stopped at some lights a few yards/meters further up the hill and, when I went to pull away, the car was gutless - felt like it was stuck in third or had lost all its power. Also, the "mode indicator light" (the left transmission LED on the dash) was blank.

Limped into work, stopped the car, switched off and checked the fluid. The colour and level was still OK. Started the car again and found all dash lights active, "Trans Program" didn't flash up again and the power seemed to be back!

Long story, I know, but could anyone give me some hints, clues tips and advice.

Many thanks

Adrian 1990 UK 535i SE Auto
