What about the block? What shoulld I do..?
I'm totally on the fence about this car..
Sulphur problems could creep up on me..
Should I roll the dice..?
Jon - sound like you want the car, so suggest you take it to a BMW dealer and spend the money for a pre-purchase inspection. I am sure that they have a check list, but you can call out certain things you want looked at ... like the engine. Figure you are going to pay $100-150, but then you will know and have a basis for negotiation. Further the dealer can give you a listing of all BMW service (provided that it is still in the system). FYI I just sold my '94 530i, it had 68k, options - auto, traction, OBC and heated seats - engine recall at 52k and I got $17k. My comment is the car is worth $17k at that mileage, but not if the engine hasn't been thru the recall.
Jon, as I said had the recall done at 52k. Only symptom was a very slight vibration in the steering wheel at a stop, engine in drive. They did the leakdown test and what do you know...it failed. Two other friends (530i and 740iL) had the same symptoms and got theirs done around the same time. Remember, you can have the dealer verify the block numbers to determine which is on the car - good or potentially bad.
