close. it makes the transmission a little more responsive to accelerator input, but also allows you to hit the new, higher redline in the automatic modes (which may or may not be that big a deal).

in the 535ia application, it also speeds up the shifts, theoretically extending the lives of the clutches, i'm assuming it does the same for the 540ia.
