A Chip gets you 20bhp? for the 535? So I guess its your driving ability that lets you keep up with the 540 on the freeway? Hell its just 70 BHP to overcome stock. I know, I know the 540 could never pull away. On the highway is where the 540 shines the most.

Ive raced 4 540's on the freeway and once of the line. At that time i wasnt chipped either. If its auto tranny vs auto then you will be able to hang with a chip. The 540(auto) just doesnt have the break away horsepower to blow you away. All 4 times i raced 540's(e34) they can never pull away.It also depends on where you race. If there is any breaking involved(like a race track)then the 540 would have even less of an advantage.lap times would only be slightly better.I do think the six speed 540 would have a 1or2 second advantage on a track lap. It could really get time on you getting out of sweeping corners. The real truth to the big picture is both cars are slow cars when you talk racing. I wouldnt consider a car 3500 pounds fast until about 350 horsepower. You gotta run in the LOW 13's or high 12's(quarter mile) As you know both cars are far short of that.about 3 seconds short. As a side note, even a little 325 can be a match for an e34 540 on a twisty road or track. Those who would say a 540 would blow you away are pulling your leg or they really dont know.
