Spring to Pad Lubricant? (archive)

Posted by Barthe on September 29, 2001 at 11:03:34:

I am changing the rear shocks on my 1993 model 525.

I have obtained new upper mounts but will be reusing the spring upper and lower rubber pads.

I have cleaned off the upper and lower rubber spring pads and the spring itself.

Does anyone use a lubricant between the spring and the upper and lower rubber pads?

On the one hand a little motor oil may help to prevent squeaking but on the other hand the motor oil will attract and hold dirt.

Any comments?
