That almost sounds like a problem with the coolant temperature sensor if it's behaving like it's still cold. Mine shifts like that before it gets warmed up.

I recently had a similar problem, especially when cold. I had my trans. fluid changed and the filter screem cleaned and that seems to have taken care of the problem.

With mine, it would not shift properly and then later shift OK. I'd suggest you have fluid change and filter screen cleaned before proceeding.
