1.) A lot of people have had a bad experience with them. And a lot of people just didn't see any difference. Some people had a good experience, but I wonder if it's just because they needed new plugs, and not because the platinums were that much better.
2.) The platinums have a long life. This is good in one way (cheaper), but bad in another. The spark plugs are an excellent indicator of how well your engine is running. Leaking injectors, excessive oil blow-by, all sorts of poor running conditions are pretty obvious if you look at the plugs regularly. Also, if you change the plugs regularly there is much less chance for a plug to settle in real tight and then somebody comes by and strips out the threads in the head (huge PITA) or breaks the plug (huge PITA).
Anyway, that's my $.02AUS.
i've read that you should stay with original bmw spark plugs instead of switching to platinums...
what do you guys use?
