The difference is that anthracite is a definite gray. Diamantschwartz-metallik is a true black color with what is known as a "flip" of a different hue. The flip in diamantschwartz-metallik is a grayish color, this is what gives it a metallic color.

Anthracite could be had if asked for from BMW Individual. E34 M5's most likely have this color, but it is nearly impossible to tell because BMW does not make records of this available.
