Yesterday morning I crank the car and it ran terrible. It idled very rough and then eventually shut off. It did this 3-4 times then it backfired and began to run as smooth as ever. Although it is now running smooth again, I know something is wrong. Has anyone experienced this before. The car is always tuned. I always run 93 octane.

TIA, Vern

the O2 sensor let go. Cranked car to move from driveway to street to get Model A out of garage, then shut it off 30 seconds later. When I went to move the 5er from the street to the garage, it acted as if it was flooded; when it finally fired up, big cloud of smoke, really rough idle. I changed the oil and installed a new set of Platinum +4's, and took it on a test drive. While on the test drive, the Check Engine light came on (first time ever), and I got a code 1221 (Oxygen Sensor). New O2 sensor and I've not had a problem since.

I've only heard it backfire once, and that was at Virginia International Raceway entering the uphill transition that splits the course into North and South...it was from a WOT condition to a no throttle condition. Not heard a peep since.

Hope that helps you a bit.
