some people want an individual car. Take my case for instance. I have a turbo M30 motor from a car i totalled. It is 370hp. Down the street from me is a nice 525i that needs a clutch and exhaust manifold. It is the color I want and is in great shape. Looks like it will be cheap. Since the 525i is the same body as the 535i it seems that the engine should bolt right in. Take my motor plus a $3000 car that is perfect for what I need and I have a great car for $6-7000 using parts that fit right in. The only thing I need is a 11 into 2 exhaust pipe to mate the exhaust. I worked before as a BMW mechanic so swapping an engine is pretty easy.

I also considered putting a 6 speed tranny into a 740i. That car was made in europe but not shipped here. To me, spending the extra $ to get exactly what I want is worth it. I could settle for an auto tranny but why???

If you want a stock 535i or M5, great. But don't knock others for wanting an individual car. It may not be for you. Passion about cars is what fuels these conversions and I think its a good thing. Did you see the V12 6-spd E34 on ebay? Tell me that is a bad thing. Tell me Alpina, Hartge and Racing Dynamics conversions are bad. Is a chip Bad? A body kit? A supercharger? A V12 in a 318ti compact? some people like that stuff.
