I agree, the E39 sedan is rather bland from the back. Not offensively ugly like the E60 concept shots (or the E65 7er for that matter) but just nondescript. And I have never liked automatic climate control, give me two knobs and some sliders...The visceral growl is probably a worn muffler. My car has a visceral hiss due to some non-OEM holes in the muffler...

My specific dislikes of the E39:

1. Rear End Styling. The overall styling is starting to grow on me. I still think the E34 is a more "classic" look, but the E39 is really looking better all the time. When the hideously ugly E60 is introduced, E39s might look alot better. It always seems that I'm one body style behind.

2. Stereo/ACC Controls. Call me old-fashioned but I still like rotary knobs rather than scrolling through 90 different increments by pushbutton to get where I want.

3. Certainly doesn't have the visceral growl of my E34. My E34 has a wonderful stock exhaust sound to it, the E39 just don't have it, I couldn't really hear much from anywhere.

What are the specific differences you noticed ?

I am thinking about trading in my 95 540IA in February when the CPO expires. The info would be helpful.

TIA
