Great reply! Sums up my feeling on the matter as well.
94 530i 5sp. (115k, Nikasil)
My ideal car is an E34 M5 Touring with the E39 M5 engine, and a lifetime warranty on all parts, including tires, given to me for $1. Of course, that's really out of the question (unless somebody wants to sponsor me in the local autocrosses), so I have to compromise. The areas that I am willing to compromise in are different from yours - I have different priorities, different taste and desires than you do.
What would I buy in your situation? A 1995 540i, preferably with the 6-speed. They average a few thousand more than a 1994 530i will set you back, but the extra cash is well worth it. And over 5 years, unless you enjoy wanking a car to death it'll cost less than your Camry. I don't think Camrys have a very good resale value; neither to BMWs, but a 1995 540i has pretty much hit the depreciation basement, going from $50k+ new to around $20k. The BMW will cost more to maintain, especially if you're like me and call the shop for stupid stuff like installing your clear corner markers.
The BMW (530i or 540i) will kick the Camry's ass in every performance test, hands down. That's important to me, but perhaps less so to you.
The new Camry is Fugly with a capital F. Yuck. I wouldn't drive that turd-looking thing if you paid me to. But, to each his own. The people in the commercials seem to like the thing an awful lot. But then again, they're actors, and I'm guessing they're fairly good if they can feign desire of that car.
Anyway, it's hard for me to recommend something to you, because I don't know you at all. You apparently aren't too discerning as far as a car's styling (just kidding, sorta, okay the car is ugly and I can't believe you like it) so who knows? Maybe the Camry is right for you. I've always though of cars of its ilk (Camry, Accord, Civic, Lexuseses and Acuras) as appliances. They get you from here to there with a minimum of fuss and driver involvement. I like to be involved, and fuss is what makes a car endearing. Anyway, I'm rambling. Maybe you could flip a coin?
I would like to ask your all opinions about to BMW 530i - 1994. Now, I don't know I should buy old BMW 530i - 1994 or a brand new Toyota Camry LE - 2002. I love BMW so much. But I cannot afford it. So which car do you prefer to? Please give me some advices to which car you prefer to? and why to decide to choose it?
Thank you very much.
Have a nice day to all.
