Yup. I replaced mine with one from a salvage yard. $75 for the part. Not too hard to fix...just sorta a back breaker as it's in the middle-back of the engine compartment.

I had the same problem on my '89 535i. The blower squeaked on setting 1 and would get a little quieter on the higher settings. I pulled out the old Bentley and accessed the blower from the firewall inside the engine compartment. I removed the entire motor, oiled the motor bearings, connected it to a spare battery I had laying around to make sure it ran smoothly (but I was being geeky, I could have spun it by hand and had the same effect). I reinstalled it and it hasn't squeaked in about a year. Not bad for an hour's effort. If you have any questions, email me directly.
