The vacuum wasn't hard enough for the brake booster, so they use a weird system:
- On the 533 and 535i a hydraulic brake booster supplied with hydraulic pressure from the power steering pump assists the braking effort...
They use an hydraulic accumulator that fails as often as the E28 bushings...

But I am learning... and I will replace the accumulator and the front end components Sunday.
