head? The CDX-M30 works fine with the Alpine 3 head in my '93 525i. Check your connections. I believe the CDX-M30 will power up and check for disks when you change the cartridge even with the ignition switch off. This tells me it doesn't have to communicate with the head unit to do this. Which adapter are you using?

I just installed a Pioneer CDX-M30 cd changer in my '95 525iT to its Alpine 3 head unit, but there doesn't appear to be any communication between the units. I can hear the changer power up and move the discs, but that's it.
Before purchasing the changer, I checked this website, http://www.unofficialbmw.com/all/stereo/all_cd_changer_info.html, which appeared to indicate that the two models matched up. What gives?
