Last time I did the brakes on my 535i it cost me $472.00 parts and shipping, not including tools. I bought most of my parts mail order and shoped around for low (maybe not the lowest) prices.
This was for 4 Ate Rotors, 2 sets of front pads (had to return one as they were the wrong size) one set of rear pads, Brake fluid, sensors, 1 Ate caliper, Wheel lug bolts (One broke when I took the wheel off so I replaced all of them) a couple of cans of parts cleaner and a some other odds and ends...
As for time -- If all goes well a good mechanic should be able to do front and rear in less then 3 hours.
I order my parts from BMA... shipping is another $28.00. I drop them off at an independant mechanics and he charges me $59.95 an hour to install them...
It shouldn't be too hard to understand that if I buy the parts for $103.50 U.S (about $170. Can) then I save approx. $400.00 (can) in parts and $40.00 (Can) an hour in labour...
The job is as good as at any dealers...the car is repaired and Bob's your Uncle!
