Good time to check the Bentley manual, but unfortunately I don't have it with me. I believe it's the 4th relay from the left in the top row in the box at the left rear corner of the engine compartment ('top row' being as you stand next to the fender, with the rows running from the front to rear of the car). I swapped mine with the horn relay (#2) just to see if it would work (it did). The new relay, 033 201 4456 is less than $8 from Zygmunt Motors, about double at the dealer.
Also, just change the fuse... it may be bad even though you can't see a break.

1990 535iM heater fan won't go on. I wiggled fuse 19 and it ran for one short trip; hasn't since. I've plugged and unplugged the fuse to clean its contacts without success.

I want to check the associated relay, but: which one is it??
