X Cross tire rotation pattern (archive)

In another message there was a question about rotating tires. Officially, BMW says NO. However, my local independent BMW shop says yes and they do it in a X Cross pattern. Of course, this rotation does not apply to unidirectional tires. Earlier, some question whether this is correct saying it should be front to back and visa versa. I checked Tire Rack and they concur this rotation pattern stating: "On rear wheel or four wheel drive vehicles, rotate the tires in a rearward cross pattern (fig. C) or the alternative X pattern (fig. B)" For more go here:
