I use the vent timer (twice a day) all summer in AZ. I can set the individual timers on and off anytime there is power to the OBDC, including switch position 1. After rerading your post, I tried to switch it to the timer function just for kicks. It wouldn't switch to that mode. I often wondered if that was a system option switch or maybe just a SW load feature or something.
Perhaps my unit does not work like the rest of the e34's or mine is malfunctioning, but (yes, your instructions were clear) your solution didn't work on mine.
94 540i, still using 'lunch' and 'home' timers in sunny AZ
First, (if you actually have the parking ventilation system),the ignition must be in position 1...NOT position 2...then you press the timer button (once)...then press the S/R button. The display should read "On" or "Off". The system should turn itself on if the system was previously off. If you want to program the system to turn itself on at a predetermined time...then press the S/R button again then select the "time" by pressing the appropriate 1000/100/10/1 buttons (make sure you choose the am/pm that's appropriate). (a red light on the left side of the "Timer" button should come on that indicates it has been programmed). If you want to program another time sequence (you can program 2 sessions), press the S/R button again then the 1000/100/10/1 buttons and the red light on the right side of the "Timer" button should light up to indicate the 2nd timed session is programmed. Turn your ignition off and remove key. At the predetermined time...your ventilation system should turn itself on and run for 30 min. If you interrupt the session by starting the car (or turning ignition to position 2) you will end the timed session.
I hope these instructions weren't "to difficult" to understand.
91 735iL (I know how to work my stuff ;-) )
first got my car it tried it out and it worked. I tried it last night following the procedure in the owners manual and couldn't get it to work....I don't know if the first time I used the manual procedure or used a procedure off of the net...I never use it but thought that i would go through the steps to tell you what I did..
