If the car has done a reasonable mileage it would be prudent to service the head while it is off the car.It is not that expensive and could save serious $$$$ latter on.

Methinks the gasket kit should be around $200 US.
Then there is all the labour and oil and coolant and a head recondition.

It is ok it is only $$$$$$

Yep, it's gone... well it's still there, but it's broken and billows forth white/gray clouds of gas. I only bought my 1990 535iA 42 days ago too. Something tells me I got jipped. And now the mechanic I talked to wants you jip me too. He said it was going to be $1300 to get it fixed. Is that a rip-off or what? He said the gasket set was going to cost $500. If I'm not mistaken, can't you get gasket sets from Bavarian Autosport and Bimmer Parts Co. for about $100?
