My original transmission started slipping, so I looked around for a replacment. I bought the "same" transmission from a guy with a 1995 325. Physically identical on the exterior and bolted right up. I have a few concerns. I had it filled up with MOBIL1 synthetic ATF.
1. is Mobil one ATF o.k. to use, or does is cause problems?

2.This new (to me) tranny makes some noise in first gear, less in second, and comparitively none in third or fourth. Kind of a very light "scraping" sound. Has me concerned. What could this be ? Also might be described as a vacuum hiss sound ? Could the mechanic have left a vacuum line (didn't think that there were any) unhooked ?

3. It shifts out of 1st very quickly, like at 5mph. Its in third gear by 15mph. Is this normal for this transmission ?

4. I bought this transmission from a guy who was changing to a manual shift. It has 60,000 miles on it, and was described to be in fine working condition. just FYI.

5. For the first time, I romped on it from a rolling start and held down the gas pedal. It did a crappy shift into third and the transprogram light came on !!!??!!! What's going on ? Any ideas.

also, before installation, I did do a filter change and there was not much stuff in the pan and the fluid looked beautiful.

Thanks in Advance,
Richard
