My 89 525i has the same shake at hard breaking which is caused by the thrust arm bushings - they are going to be replaced. I don't think bushings would cause the front end to track incorrectly, you may want to examine the lower control arms for play or the steering arms. These cars are so funky to diagnose for driveability problems, I would take it to a shop and have the suspension inspected.

...the front end to track incorrectly and increase the "trammeling" (is that correct?) impression when changing lanes in rutted roads?

I think my bushings are going (must have been all the track time!). The front end is starting to shake when firm braking at highway speeds.

Trying to guess if I have one problem or two.

Thanks for the ideas.

90 535i
