but when I let the car run, scrape the windows, then get to iced mirrors, the ice is easier to remove there than if it were frozen solid. The biggest benefit I have noticed is not so much the de-icing ability, but the ability to keep warm enough to forcibly evaporate any water or leftover ice chips if I didn't get the mirror completely clean. All of the wet swirling most cars get after you wipe off the mirrors goes away, leaving a better viewing surface.

They will never warm your hands on a cold day, though.

Okay so it seems pretty much everyones E34 has heated mirrors. I live up in Madison, WI and we get some pretty heavy snow. I haven't seen my mirrors heat really, but I have seen them encased in ice, and I usually have to scrap them everyday. I am GUESSING they don't work, or never have. Hell, I didnt even know I had them. It didn't mention in the manual anywhere, and doesn't mention them in my Bently manual anywhere either. So I assumed BMW just didn't have them for the E34 or something (yah, dumb assumption eh?)..

Ok.. For those who also live in snow covered states in the winter.. How heated are these mirrors? Will they quickly melt an ice encased mirror? How about just one covered in snow? How long does it take? Do they even help? :) Reason being, im wondering if its worth it to fix them, or maybe they just arent hot enough for where I live so I never notice them. How well do they work. :)
