I have an M30 (535), so I'm not sure about other engines. Anyhow, with the car off you can remove the ICV by loosening the clamp and wiggling it out of the intake boot and the hose that goes from it to the manifold. The M30 valve is a barrel that rotates to open and close. Look inside it and see if it will rotate to the full open and full closed positions. Leave it fully closed and turn on the key (don't start the car). I believe the valve is supposed to move to the 50% open position. If it's very difficult to rotate or doesn't move electrically it may be shot. Check Bruno's site, I think it has more, and also the Bentley's manual. Good luck.

I had the cable for the cruise control jump out of it's fitting and keep the idle at 2k one time. I had been working around there and accidentally pulled it out so that it was hung up on the shoulder of the pocket it was supposed to seat in.

Well great, just when I thought I could make some improvements to the car something unexpected jumps out to bite me.

Car started and ran fine then 1/2 hour into my commute the idle jump WAY up. At a stop light with car in drive it had a reading of 1300 rock steady. BUT if I shifted up to neutral or park WHAM -2500 RPM! You can imagine what the tranny sounded like when I shifted back to drive. It is time for inspection II but nothing else was needed or known to be wrong.
