If you check, you can read a bit about comparison betw. 535i and 530i. In a nutshell:
The displacement is different, but performance is same -- and in some instances, the 530 was even stronger. Maybe the V-8 config. lends itself to more oompfh. (See also the Car & Driver test on
You'll get what you pay for on the 530i. The nickasil issue can be nerve-wracking if you're looking at a used one with NO LEAKDOWN test. Remember that there are plenty of Nickasil blocks that haven't had any problems -- and that the problem ones get LOTS of press...

'95 530i

I love the response of this board. I'm an e28'er (88 535i 5spd) looking, at times, at attractively priced 530's, but worried about V8 engine issues. Any takers on e34 vs e28, 535 vs 530?
