M30B35 - bulletproof reliability, parts are cheap, torque that makes diesels jealous. Admittedly, the head gaskets are a bit of a weak link, but they're the ONLY weak link.

M60B30 - Nikasil, 40k mile valve cover gaskets, PCV valves, Nikasil, self-removing oil pumps, Nikasil...low-end torque? No. Better top-end power? Barely. Any better than the 535i? Hell no. I'll give the engine points for better economy, but who gives a shit about that, really? ;)

Of course, I would steal your car if I saw it, so you can take solace in that.

530i - V8 = speaks for itself !!!

535i - straight 6 maintainance costs without the power, potential cracked head, etc

95 530i
free new block
tuned valves with new block
