I'm in New Zealand and looking at buying a 1988 535sei 5spd had a look at one tonight .a red one ex UK the body was good had 110,000miles on the clock ,this guy has had it for about 5years and his wife mostly uses it to run around the kids etc.
it had a fluid leak out of one of the power steering hoses coming off the tank.
engine sounded good and drove OK ,there were some slite clunk sounds coming from steering/suspesion at low speeds .
under the oil cap looked prety grity.there was quite a bit of slop in the gear lever is this normal?
the guy said it was imported from the UK after it was a stolen recovered vehicle ,had damaged locks and missing seats and wheels ,all fixed now .
I was wondering if anyone in the UK would be able to find any history on this car if i give you the chasis No.
if you email me I'll send you the chasis no .

ps. I just sold a 1988 750iL so i could join the E34 message board.

i have had my 85-535 for 10 years, bought it with 47,000 miles it now has 215000 on it, have always used red line and it is so pretty in there you could fry an egg in it...m
