Don't forget that thrust arms are a common failure on e34s too. My 535 goes through a set of thrust arms and control arms every 40-60K miles.
Costs about $700 from an independant mechanic, dealer price is right up there with the Audi price.
No fair comparing dealer to do it your self prices.
What year was your A4?? They have made some improvements.
Wifey has an A4q 2.8 slushbox....I have a 525i 5spd. The car now runs fine (oooohh now I've done it :( ) but she would NEVER buy another Audi and would kill me if I sold the E34!
A4 platform same as Passat....
- Slushbox gave out at 12k after me taking it back to the stealer 6 times telling him that it wasn't right and him telling me that that is
"how they are"...it could have killed us (long story). Installed new innards on box.....
- Front control arms crapped out (creaking and groaning - sub-par bushings) just 3 mos after warranty.
Nice VW - they gave us a 50pct reduction on parts and I had to pay all labour...$1200 bucks out of my pocket!
- Sunroof played up - new frame supplied under warranty - took me 3 trips back to stealer to get it installed correctly. Scratched up paintwork on roof..
- Climate control would decide to turn itself off when changing from park to drive or to reverse!. They didn't believe me even after I took it back 4 times! Finally, they found it out...turned out they need to institute an old "fix" they used on previous Audi climate control systems that they thought was cured on the new models!
Front AND rear brakes crapped out after 23k.
Installed ATE Powerdiscs and EBC Greenstuff myself...dealer wanted 600 just for installed pads!!!
Find a Touring....
