The only hard bit is cutting the sheet wood, best use a cirular saw as you will get better straight lines! Use slef tapping wood screws - your local hardware shop should be able to help show you which ones are best for MDF. It's all pretty straight forward, just take your time and the result will be good.

I was thinking that if you experimented with the roundel, if you could remove the silver on the bottom of the badge so that it would just leave the blue, white and black bits - then if you mount it on the top, the light will illuminate it so the colours will show up through the badge and look damn cool. Even if you took off just the blue and white bits - leave the white bits clear and paint the blue back on so it is transparent maybe? Just a thought.
