I would only give an LDS equipped car to an experienced driver in the snow. While it's great at helping you gain initial traction, it's dangerous once moving. An excessive application of power will immediately break loose both rear wheels typically causing the car to swap ends faster than you can say "Holy snowbank Batman!"

I think a traction control system ala ASC is better for inexperienced/non thinking drivers.

Of course, hehe, I love driving my LSD equipped 535i 5 speed in the snow. Goes great with snow tires... It's just not a setup for a beginner. :)
