I have had this problem a couple of times. It maybe that something is wrong with the airbag system especially if it stays on.

I my case the light came on, took it to the dealer who checked the system out and was told it needed to be re-set. I currently have this problem which started after I threw my briefcase onto the passenger's seat while getting into the car. I believe that I did read somewhere on the board that there is a problem with the seat sensor. I believe that this is what happened to my srs light. I have not bothered to take it back to the dealer since the light goes out and supposedly this indicates that the system is functional. I just drive more carefully for the first 5-10 minutes.

Hope this helps.
