frozen tie rod ends (archive)

Hi. Have any of you ever replaced the tie rods on your E34 when replacing the ball joints(tie rod ends?). I had my 95 540 in for an alignment recently, and the tech told me the tie rod ends were frozen in place. After heating and wrenching on them for some time, the service advisor told me I'll need all the tie rod ends replaced in order to align the car, as he will destroy the existing ones taking them off the car. For nearly $600 parts and labor. My question is: does it sound reasonable to buy rods and ends, put them together and install them, then have it aligned, thus saving all that money on labor(not to mention the high cost of dealer parts.) Which parts do I need to order and from whom? Any help/ advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Eric
