I recently graduated from college and just started my first job as a software developer. Currently drive a 1992 535i (Family hand-me-down bought brand new). I have lusted after an M5 for as long as I can remember. I would like to purchase one sometime next year. However, I am concerned that it will be expensive to maintain. If I get a '94 in decent shape what kind of upkeep costs will I be looking at? Hopefully, I will have paid off my student loans by the time I get the car. TIA

From what I can gather, specific M-parts less immediately available (but obtainable) and cost more. If you mean '94, assume you mean Euro version because they stopped shipping E34-M5's to US in '93.

Rgds,
Norm

Have you had any luck in the search for your dream car?

Actually, I've been doing some research lately and I thought I'd take a crack at answering this one. How'd I do? I'm always open for correction when I'm wrong.

BTW, no luck yet. First, I'd like to sell my '00 540i, so I'd be in a better position to pounce on something. If I go with something in the low to mid 20's, it's doable w/o selling, otherwise, I really need to sell first. My problem is being picky. My preference is a '93 with heated seats, not impossible but I'm hearing about many w/o that option. Hey, don't people's butts ever get cold in Fla and Ca? :-) Anyway, 2nd choice is '91 (with heated seats). If that doesn't pan out, then I go for either one w/o htd seats.

Rgds,
Norm
