Do you think it would be ok for the car to sit for 6months at a time? I'm not in the country that much so if its not good for that type of engine might have to just get a 97 540i.

This particular car won't suffer any more than any other car will sitting. (I have 'seasonal' cars but run each on weekly basis even 'out of season' to keep hoses and seals from drying out, metal components from developing internal rust, etc.) Isn't there anyone you could give the keys to let them 'wake it up' periodically while you're out of the country?

The other thing is to check back issues of magazines like Car & Driver, Road & Track, etc. They periodically run 'how to store a car' type articles which are very enlightening.
