Howdy,
Has anyone ever done a 5 speed conversion on a E34 touring and/or the E36 M3 engine and transmission swap? My wife wants a touring, and the E39 is over our price range, and she has to have a manual trannie! We both drive M3's now, mine is a 98 M3/4 and she has a 95 m3 with 172,000 trouble-free miles, but needs the room a touring would provide.

I am helping a friend shoe horn in an S52 with close ratio 5 speed into a E30 M3 convertable and here are some of the problems so far:

1.Modified engine Mounts
2.Modify drive shaft, cut and reweld.
3.Modify Shift Linkgage.
4.Cut down flywheel to allow bell housing to fit.

I think some of this will be avoided in the E34 touring swap. It might be easier to put a 540 motor and transmission in instead. It definately would perform better.
