Certainly some of these very nice low mileage euro M5s are going for very high prices (I should know, I have a deposit on a 95 touring); these prices are high especially compared to what they are going for in Germany. It looks like nice low mileage 95 M5s can be had for under 25k. Then there are shipping, certification, and middle-man mark-ups to be paid.

As far as comparing the car to a new 528i sport, that makes no sense as they are very different cars. I actually looked at them - very nice cars - more luxurious, isolated and floaty than an E34 M5. The 5 speed sport example I drove wouldn't hold a candle to my US spec 93 M5, let alone a euro spec 95. The best comparison would be an Audi S4 Avant. Comparable performance to an E34 M5 out of the box (but much more tunable), 4WD security, somwehat less enjoyable to drive, much smaller, plus it would be NEW with Audi's free maintenance and warranty program, and have a wider and more robust resale market.

I'm still picking the M5 Touring. It is the PERFECT weekend car - superb power, handling, and driving fun, plus all the space one could need. The jabs from people that think wagons are for soccer moms don't bother me.
