Hello, I am the Vice-Chair of the City of Charlottesville Planning Commission and hoped I could give a little advice to make your presence better felt and hopefully more productive. If it is actually a public hearing, as stated in the message, the public is allowed to speak. Get there early and sign up, your typically kept to a maximum of 2-5 minutes, it helps to write down what you want to say. If you can't amke it a handwritten letter is the next best thing, avoid a form letter, we "planning Commissioners" discount those heavily, given the date, if you can't make the meeting and are afraid the mail won't arrive in time, find out the fax # at the planning department and fax them a letter and ask for it to be distributed to the commissioners, avoid form letters, if your down to the wire you can also use email, less effective then other choices but better than doing nothing, unless you use form emails, which just pisses people off. From my personal experience a large group of people speaking intelligently about a subject is very compelling. Best of luck, I haven't had my 91 Dinan M5 to the track yet, but Summitt point is the largest one close to me so try your best to keep it open. Feel free to email if I can provide any other advice.

These two posts were on another list. If anyone uses Summit Point race track, it will apparently help if you can at least write a letter in support of the track, and fax or mail it (read post for info):

If you attend or participate in events at Summit Point, please read the
email below.

Thanks.

Show your support for Bill Scott and Summit Point Raceway!

At 7:30PM on January 16, 2001, the Jefferson County Planning Commission will be holding a "public input" hearing regarding requests to both expand and greatly limit activities at Summit Point Raceway. We are asking that all members interested in showing their support for Summit Point Raceway contact Don Caldwell (301) 384-3455. We very much would like to have members who live in Jefferson County attend this meeting to show our support for Summit Point. The meeting will be held at 108 E. Washington Street in Charles Town at 7:30 p.m. on the Tuesday the 16th, but we would like people to arrive at 7PM.

IT IS EXTREMLY IMPORTANT THAT WE MAKE OUR PRESENCE KNOWN! A group called Citizens Against Raceway Expansion (CARE) is lobbying for a change in zoning. Use of the track would be restricted to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays and a dB limit of _65_. For reference, an electric typewriter at 10 feet is 64 dB and a typical highway noise is dB! If this is passed, our racing program gets hit hard.

This is NOT a regular meeting of the Planning Commission, so we do not
expect that we will have the opportunity to speak. None-the-less, it is
important that we have people present to show that the Washington racing community supports their community through our spending. We are doing this to show our support for Bill Scott and Summit Point Raceway. Any questions?

Contact Don Caldwell (301) 384-3455 or dccald@aol.com.

Play safe,
Jeff

Update to all concerned about Summit Point:
Bill Scott, Summit Point and their attorney would like to have as many
people as we can get show up at the hearing on Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at the Jefferson County Planning Commission, 108 E. Washington St. in Charles Town, WV. The hearing is scheduled for 7:30 PM but we would like to get there early, around 7:00 to hand out pins identifying us as pro Summit Point.

The attorney has said anyone from anywhere is welcome since it is a public hearing and some of the anti Summit Point forces actually live in Virginia. In addition, the attorney would like as many letters as possible supporting the track, addressed to the Planning Commission but sent to Summit Point so they can be presented together to the Commissioners. Please try to get all letters to the track by Monday, January 15.

Address the letters to:
Jefferson County Planning Commission
PO Box 338
Charles Town, WV 25414

And start the letters "Dear Commissioners"

But actually send to:
Summit Point Raceway
PO Box 190
Summit Point, WV 25446

OR FAX 304-728-7124
OR E-mail office@bsr-inc.com

Thank you.

Don Caldwell
Regional Executive
Washington DC Region SCCA
