Friends:

Europe has some cars we want. Late model cars, with basically the same safety/emission standards as our NA-spec cars. Whether the E34 M5/M5T's so often discussed on this board, or perhaps a E38 6-speed, or whatever. Hell, my wife's 300TE is as common with a 5-speed in Europe as the only-available-option-slushbox versions are here....

I'd like to think the 'new administration' might be receptive to the argument that importation of European vehicles should not be as restrictive as it is - I'm speaking of the $5000-6000 for DOT/EPA certification specifically - especially considering, again, the fact that most manufacturers are producing 'world cars'. Title search, change KMs to miles and you're done.

Who do we write? How do we get started? Is the high cost due to silly regulations or is this more of a supply/demand thing (e.g. one or two companies have 'lock' on DOT/EPA certification, enough folks willing to pay the premium to keep current system).
